Whimbrels pass by Sam Smith Park every May around the second and third week during migration to their breeding grounds in the Arctic lowlands. Whimbrel Point is a great spot to watch this spectacle. Observers there with clipboards, binoculars and spotting scopes tally the population numbers of these birds as well as other passing shorebirds.
